North Avenue Beach
Located at 1603 N. Lakeshore Drive, North Avenue Beach is one of Chicago's most popular beaches.
Featuring too many volleyball courts to count, a roller-hockey rink, a massage station, several kiosk stands offering refreshments, a bags (also known as corn-hole) set rental, beach chair rental, umbrella rental, volley-ball net rental, ice cream, Castaways Bar and Grill, restrooms, bike rental, quadcycle rental, showers, bike mechanic service, and of course lots of sand for lounging by the lake. The current North Avenue Beach House was dedicated by Mayor Daley in May of 2000. The cruise-ship inspired building cost over $7 million dollars to construct and it boasts one of the best views of the Chicago skyline along one of the city's most popular beaches. The North Avenue Beach House has been a popular spot for Chicagoans and visitors alike since the 1920s. North Avenue Beach has the largest lifeguard staff of any Chicago beach. North Avenue Beach is also one of the best places to view the annual Chicago Air and Water Show that comes to the city every August. With access to North Avenue Beach by car (some paid parking available), bicycle, in-line skates, on foot, by bus, and El subway train, it's no wonder why so many people love North Avenue Beach.
