Museum Campus, Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum / 12th Street Beach

Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum is the oldest Planetarium in the US, founded in 1930 by Max Adler.  The Adler Planetarium is home to three large theaters as well as one of the most important collections of antique astronomy instruments.

The Alder Planetarium has special programs for young students and children as well as a special program on the 3rd Thursday of each month called Adler After Dark featuring cocktails and appetizers overlooking an amazing view of Chicago’s Skyline.

Located directly behind the planetarium is 12th Street Beach.  12th Street Beach is an entirely man-made beach that was created in the 1920s as part of the Northerly Island.  Nearby Meigs Field airport closed in 2003, making 12th Street Beach even more serene.

Bike and Roll Chicago features a Hot Dog stand and bicycle rental location on Solidarity Drive conveniently steps from both the planetarium and 12th Street Beach.
